Where to start with Erevis Cale

Start with Twilight Falling if you want to read the trilogy that ends with Midnight's Mask. The earlier Sembia stories are worth knowing about, but you can come back to them.

The six-novel route

Paul S. Kemp recommends the Erevis Cale trilogy followed by the Twilight War for readers heading toward The Godborn. Here are the two trilogies in order.

1. Twilight Falling
2. Dawn of Night
3. Midnight's Mask
4. Shadowbred
5. Shadowstorm
6. Shadowrealm

Already finished Midnight's Mask? Pick up Shadowbred next.

The shorter route

If you only have time for one trilogy before The Godborn, Kemp suggests starting with the Twilight War: Shadowbred, Shadowstorm, Shadowrealm.

For readers who want the early stories

Look for “Resurrection” in The Halls of Stormweather, then Shadow's Witness. Kemp’s full chronology also places the short stories alongside the novels. Browse the magazine stories.
